Next week many people will take to the skies and road to see their families for Thanksgiving.  While you may be tempted to show up at the airport in the same sweats you wore last year, take a tip from the stars and travel in style.

• Wear a maxi dress, comfortable, stylish and no metal bits to be messed with at security
• Layer up, its cold on the airplane but hot at the airport or vice versa, so wear a stylish sweater or hoodie over your shirt
• Hurrah for leggings!  Comfortable and stylish for those hours on the road and again if your flying no belt to take off at security.
• Put your big scarf to use, turning up the style on any outfit and also keeping you cosy on the run.
• Put on your stylish flats, easy to take off for security and you'll be faster catching your connecting flight.
• Who wants to check their luggage?  Many airlines now charge to check in bags and who wants to wait around for baggage claim.  Get a cute carry-on.

The holidays are here, and lets face it stress is here too.  Your already long list of things to do has now tripled.  What exactly does Auntie Helen want for Christmas?  Can I bake four dozen cookies for the office or will they even suspect I stopped at the supermarket?  Well before you bit your nails to the quick with all the anticipation, pamper them.  That's right go get your self an manicure, or take 10 minutes out of your day and do one at home (Burt's Bees Tips 'N Toes Kit, $12.99 at Target).  Then make sure the attention is brought to your hands by accessorizing with a stylish ring.  Big rings are a beautiful trend that will bring attention to those digits.  

Not only will they admire your ring but the nails that say I've got the happy holidays under control.

As far as basics go for winter - I love leggings.  They give me hot mama fashionability with comfort.  Easy to pair with tops, sweaters and hoodies for effortless style.  I also wear them with a cute flats for those days when I am running errands and not at my photoshoot (jokes!).  So versatile, I can also wear them walking the dogs with a t-shirt.  Or dress them up for work with a belted top and a tucked into a pair of boots.  Black may be my favorite basic, but try other neutral colors.  There are also so great patterns and material that can highlight those gams.  So hot mamas show off those toned legs you got from chasing a toddler or two around.

The other day on the way to work I passed a high school.  I saw a girl headed to classes wearing a yellow shirt and yellow shoes.  Suddenly I was in a time machine that took me back to my teen years when one of my favorite outfits was a pair of yellow hightops and a yellow sweater.   In a way I still yearn for that combination.  Or maybe just the good memories I had while wearing those shoes. 

The shoes eventually gave out as well as the sweater.  Lucky for me yellow is back in.  Though perhaps not in the Big Bird way of my younger years.  You can love yellow again but please just try one piece at a time.  

• Liven up the old jeans uniform with a yellow sweater or top.
• Carry a yellow clutch or bag to brighten your week up
• Stay warm with a yellow hat or scarf
• and yes yellow shoes can be worn again, just go for a stylish flat instead of those high-tops...even though they will always have a special place in my heart!

The other day I was getting ready for bed and was dissapointed in myself.  When did my drawer become full of old t-shirts and old pants?  Ladies you can be ashamed of me!  Don't fall into this trap.  Even if you sleep alone you can still have fun in bed.  Maybe its time to break out the silky pajamas that you got last Christmas.  Or time to invest in something you wear that will make you want to sleep with your eyes open. Because being comfortable does not mean stained or hole filled.

How can it be the second week of November already?  Eek!  As much as I would like to say I'm thinking of what to get Uncle George for Christmas, selfishly I'm not.  I'm thinking about all those holiday parties and what exactly I am going to wear to them?  

Here are some things I look for in a holiday wear:

• I like to make a statement when I take off my coat so I go for a dress with a sparkle, sheen, pattern, color or embelishment that will catch the eye.
• As Tim Gunn would say "Acccesorize thoughtfully".  If I'm wearing and LBD (Little Black Dress) I like to wear a stunning pair of shoes or a piece of jewlery that makes me stand out.
• Because there will be more than one holiday party I like something affordable so that I can maybe purchase two dresses and rotate them.
• Also I love the holidays because of the ample feasting, to help prevent my fourth trip to the buffet I chose something fitted to help me say no to that last sugar cookie.

Maybe I'm feeling inspired from my shopping/makeover weekend with my boyfriend last week (FYI: he hated every minute of it, but he looks damn hot now!), or maybe I've just noticed way too many shlumpy looking guys out there, but I woke up this morning itching to write this blog post. There are just some things guys don't seem to know about getting dressed and how, by golly, they should look when they're out with the stylish women in their lives.

For the man who needs some fashion help, here's some random thoughts, so you can start your journey down the very tip of the lookin'-good iceberg. (Feel free to discreetly print this out or email it to a guy in your life who needs a hint. And actually, this could totally apply to some ladies out there too):

1) Please, please make sure your clothes actually fit you. No, your belt on the very last notch does not mean those pants that are two sizes too big look like they fit you. And no, that oversized shirt doesn't hide your gut, it actually accentuates it. If you wear clothes that fit you, it will probably make you look skinnier (trust me on this one).

2) If your clothes are 10 years old or older (ugh), do. not. keep. on. wearing. them. Yes, that super thin t-shirt might be comfortable, but I can see your flesh underneath it.  And no, holes are not attractive (especially not in your underwear--buy new ones!)

3) A jumpsuit, sweatsuit, sweat pants, basketball shorts, tank top or hoodie are not suitable wardrobe pieces for a night out to dinner. Go put something on that doesn't have elastic!

4) Say it with me: You need different shoes for different occasions. I know you're all about quick and easy, but those ratty sneakers you wore to the gym will not work with the nice jeans and v-neck sweater you just threw on for our date to the movies.

And hey, if all else fails, just go shirtless.

This has been a PSA fashion rant for all the well-meaning but totally clueless dudes out there. And big hello to all the gentlemen who read this and thought, "That ain't me." You make me smile every time I see you on the street (well, your fashion sense and your nice butt).
