Next week many people will take to the skies and road to see their families for Thanksgiving.  While you may be tempted to show up at the airport in the same sweats you wore last year, take a tip from the stars and travel in style.

  • Wear a maxi dress, comfortable, stylish and no metal bits to be messed with at security
  • Layer up, its cold on the airplane but hot at the airport or vice versa, so wear a stylish sweater or hoodie over your shirt
  • Hurrah for leggings!  Comfortable and stylish for those hours on the road and again if your flying no belt to take off at security.
  • Put your big scarf to use, turning up the style on any outfit and also keeping you cosy on the run.
  • Put on your stylish flats, easy to take off for security and you'll be faster catching your connecting flight.
  • Who wants to check their luggage?  Many airlines now charge to check in bags and who wants to wait around for baggage claim.  Get a cute carry-on.

The holidays are here, and lets face it stress is here too.  Your already long list of things to do has now tripled.  What exactly does Auntie Helen want for Christmas?  Can I bake four dozen cookies for the office or will they even suspect I stopped at the supermarket?  Well before you bit your nails to the quick with all the anticipation, pamper them.  That's right go get your self an manicure, or take 10 minutes out of your day and do one at home (Burt's Bees Tips 'N Toes Kit, $12.99 at Target).  Then make sure the attention is brought to your hands by accessorizing with a stylish ring.  Big rings are a beautiful trend that will bring attention to those digits.

Not only will they admire your ring but the nails that say I've got the happy holidays under control.

leggings, purple plaid

As far as basics go for winter - I love leggings.  They give me hot mama fashionability with comfort.  Easy to pair with tops, sweaters and hoodies for effortless style.  I also wear them with a cute flats for those days when I am running errands and not at my photoshoot (jokes!).  So versatile, I can also wear them walking the dogs with a t-shirt.  Or dress them up for work with a belted top and a tucked into a pair of boots.  Black may be my favorite basic, but try other neutral colors.  There are also so great patterns and material that can highlight those gams.  So hot mamas show off those toned legs you got from chasing a toddler or two around.

ribbon photoI'm on strike from my hairdresser....ok so she sort of broke up with me.  She wont return my calls.  Was it because last time I went for a trim it was clear I had obviously committed hair adultery with another stylist?  As I move on from the ex-one to the next-one, my mission has been to spice up the old ponytail.  One easy way is to take a cue from the goddesses with some ribbon.

Or check out these quick hair pick-me-ups:
Xhilaration Fabric Covered Floral Headband - Purple/White ($7.99 at Target)
Hollywood Intuition Headband - Pink ($9.99 at Target)

Or you could just keep your noggin warm and your hair hidden with these stylish hats:

yellow shoes button

The other day on the way to work I passed a high school.  I saw a girl headed to classes wearing a yellow shirt and yellow shoes.  Suddenly I was in a time machine that took me back to my teen years when one of my favorite outfits was a pair of yellow hightops and a yellow sweater.   In a way I still yearn for that combination.  Or maybe just the good memories I had while wearing those shoes.

The shoes eventually gave out as well as the sweater.  Lucky for me yellow is back in.  Though perhaps not in the Big Bird way of my younger years.  You can love yellow again but please just try one piece at a time.

  • Liven up the old jeans uniform with a yellow sweater or top.
  • Carry a yellow clutch or bag to brighten your week up
  • Stay warm with a yellow hat or scarf
  • and yes yellow shoes can be worn again, just go for a stylish flat instead of those high-tops...even though they will always have a special place in my heart!

Target Limited Edition Womens Monroe Bustier Dress - Ebony

How can it be the second week of November already?  Eek!  As much as I would like to say I'm thinking of what to get Uncle George for Christmas, selfishly I'm not.  I'm thinking about all those holiday parties and what exactly I am going to wear to them?

Here are some things I look for in a holiday wear:

  • I like to make a statement when I take off my coat so I go for a dress with a sparkle, sheen, pattern, color or embelishment that will catch the eye.
  • As Tim Gunn would say "Acccesorize thoughtfully".  If I'm wearing and LBD (Little Black Dress) I like to wear a stunning pair of shoes or a piece of jewlery that makes me stand out.
  • Because there will be more than one holiday party I like something affordable so that I can maybe purchase two dresses and rotate them.
  • Also I love the holidays because of the ample feasting, to help prevent my fourth trip to the buffet I chose something fitted to help me say no to that last sugar cookie.

Hollywood Intuition Tote - GreenI was out to lunch recently with one of my non-mommy friends when I realized I had crossed over into the dark side of motherhood.  My functional diaper bag next to her adorable purse was down right scary.  When did I start carrying Darth Vader's overnight bag?  In an effort to GET IT TOGETHER I went and got this beautiful tote for under $30.  It has many handy pockets for that emergency snack and I can pretend it holds gym clothes instead of diaper wipes.

Check out all of these functional, yet stylish totes all under $30.

Xhilaration Skull Star and studRecently my baby daughter has taken up hang-gliding to bad its from my beautiful dangling earrings!  Before my ears start looking like an elephants, I have to banish anything but stud earrings to the jewelry box.  But like "mom jeans" and "mom haircuts", earrings that are safe from little hands tend to make me look like I'm one step away from wearing baby food-stained pajama pants to the supermarket.  And while I love Aunt Sandy's gift of pearl earrings I don't want to look like a grandma all of the time.

Hurrah for Target! Saving the day with variety, fun and youth. So you can continue to be a hot mama by being a little rock and roll.

Mossimo bib front dressI actually saw a father and teenage son yesterday dressed both in plaid.  Pop was wearing the standard old-man flannel shirt and son was in a new hip fitted plaid shirt with skinny jeans.  It was fashion evolution in action.  Plaid is back and its uniting fashion across generations!

I have to thank my lucky Nirvana stars that I don't have to wear the giant flannel shirts of my Kurt Cobain-obsessed youth to follow this fall trend.  These days, there are figure flattering shirts that pair great with leggings or skinny jeans.  You can even wear them with those new boots you got for fall to glam-up it up.  Or what about sexy plaid in the form of a fitted vest?  Either way they can be just as comfortable as your favorite flannel from the 90's.

Thumbnail image for 41EVoOT+KTL._AA260_.jpgFall has fell, and there is no escaping the change of seasons now.  But if your not ready to say goodbye to your cute summer dresses and tops, break out some cardigans.  They stretch out your budget, closet and pleasant summer memories.

Still feeling a bit chilly, I mean it is November after all.  Insulate your pins with some tights or leggings.  You don't have to go with the standard black, try rich colors and textures to draw attention to those legs you've been toning all summer.

416LSMAanWL._AA260_.jpgMost mothers have a lot of things that they are juggling--babies, jobs, dwellings and the all-important tasks like remembering to shower.  So, ladies, I have to say that sometimes I see that being a hot mama has fallen by the wayside.
So, I was pleased the other day when I met one of my friends looking very mom-tastic!  This mom of two (one of whom is only five months old) was dressed in denim, a sweater and an outstanding pair of strappy red heels.  Well done hot mama!  Just a touch of red made the outfit POP.  Red is a psuedo neutral, so you can wear those strappy reds with just about anything and still look well put together.

41fSpijRZyL._AA260_.jpgBiceps are big these days. Michelle Obama makes headlines every time she wears a tank top! In the galaxy of stars that surrounds me in Southern California, I admire Jessica Biel's toned guns the most. There's no way to get them unless I hit the gym, and there's no way I want to do that unless I'm looking absolutely fabulous. Instead of wearing sloppy sweats to the gym or as you run around the neighborhood, give yourself some exercising pizzazz by dressing the part. No, you're no Michelle Obama or Jessica Biel, but you can be just as fabulous. All you need are some chic workout clothes.

Time to retire the old sweats, ladies! Work it out in these great pieces from Target! And the best part is, they're under $15! Mix and match them with each other or with the "sloppy" pieces you already have (they'll jazz up any ensemble).

I'm not a fan of the rain (who is? Well, maybe those folks who think it's "romantic," blah), but I AM a fan of rain boots! I'm not sure what it is. Maybe it's because it's a way to add whimsy without much work, or maybe it's because I like to tap into my inner child, or maybe it's because they're just so damn fun (and cheap! For the most part).

Here's my Top 5 Picks for rain boots, along with possible outfits to go with:

1) Women's Retro Birdie Rain Boots ($24.99)  Try pairing this lovely with a matching red trench coat. Pictured

2) Zada Tall Rain Boots ($24.99): Not shaped like your typical rain boot. Wear with a fun patterned dress. Polka dots perhaps?

3) Zera Anchor Rainboots ($24.99): Pair with your favorite shorts and top. You could do a whole nautical theme and incorporate the colors navy blue and white.

4) Women's Schooled Fish Rain Boots ($24.99): Try these bad boys worn with jeans tucked in, a t-shirt and a cardigan.

5) Zetta Solid Rainboots in Yellow ($24.99): Pair with a monochromatic gray outfit--gray pencil skirt and ¾ sleeve gray top, perhaps?

Do you own rain boots?
